Free Crochet Pattern: Intro Headband

Get ready for the ultimate introduction to crochet! I’ve partnered with OEKO-TEX® to bring you the perfect beginner crochet pattern, the Intro Headband. This twisted headband pattern is an easy, mindless project that works up quickly and is a great DIY gift for the holidays. Whether it’s your first time or the thousandth time crocheting, I hope you enjoy this free pattern and learn something new about where your yarn comes from!

If you’re brand new to crochet – welcome! If you are an experienced crocheter, be sure to share this free pattern and video tutorial with a friend to introduce them to crochet! This twisted headband pattern works up in a rectangle, and with a few easy seaming tweaks, you have the option to create three different looks! You’ll love how simple, yet trendy this pattern is.

My friends at OEKO-TEX® recently told me about their STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® label, which is a certification for textiles to ensure they are safe for use. This label is an easy way for consumers like you and me to see at a glance if a yarn holds up to their standards. So what does this mean? It means that OEKO-TEX® is a third-party that tests all kinds of yarns to see if they contain any harmful substances. When a yarn is certified with the STANDARD 100 label, it means it has passed those standards and is safe for use.

They test for over 350 parameters and consider how much the end product will have contact to the skin, and even whether it will be used for babies or toddlers. This criteria helps to determine the parameters for the testing and whether or not the yarn will be certified with the STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® label.

Pretty interesting, right? Whether you are brand new to crochet or are a yarn expert, it’s helpful to know when you’re shopping for yarn for your next project! Now that I’ve learned about this label, I am noticing it on yarn labels, yarn websites, and I feel so much more informed about the yarn I’m using! Before we dive into the pattern, check out your yarn stash and see if you can find the STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®  certification on your yarn label!

The Best Yarn For Beginners

Bulky yarn is perfect for beginners because it’s easy to hold and see your stitches. It also gives you a little confidence boost because your project will work up faster! I loved using this 100% Baby Alpaca by Cavayoma because it’s buttery soft and will be so cozy to wear outside in our cold winters here. Alpaca gives you the warmth of wool, but is hypoallergenic and feels amazing next to your skin.

Thanks to the STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® label, I love knowing this yarn doesn’t have harmful chemicals or substances in it. If you’ve never worked with alpaca before, you’re in for a real treat with this one! Keep an eye out for more yarns like this one, which have earned the STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® label.
