An Honest Review: Furls Odyssey Crochet Hooks

Let me start off by saying, Furls hooks changed my life. Ever since I got my first Furls Streamline hook, I’ve been hooked on Furls and haven’t looked back. If you’ve followed me for any period of time, this is probably old news. But if it’s not, you can catch up on allllll the details of why I love my Streamlines so much in this blog post.

Now that we’ve covered the basics, let’s break down the Furls Odyssey hooks. I get a lot of questions about these hooks and now that we’re here, it’s time to dig in and share my real, honest answers!

Some of the links in this post may be affiliate links, meaning, at no additional cost to you, I will earn a commission if you click through and make a purchase.

Are the colored hooks the same?

I just got this brand new peach Odyssey hook and I am OBSESSED with this color! The Odyssey hooks come in a great selection of colors, but the design of each colored Odyssey hook is the same. I have black, blue, and peach and they are all so vibrant and beautiful. Regardless of which color you get, you’ll have the same amazing hook.

Are they heavy?

Unlike the Streamlines, which are super lightweight, the Odyssey hooks are weighted with the tip of the hook being heavier than the handle. The reason for this is that it actually helps give you momentum, allowing your hand to work less as you’re crocheting.

From the moment you take your hook out of the box, you’ll notice the difference. I find comfort in the weight of the hook, especially if I’m working on a project that has a lot of repetitive stitches.

*I need to note here that sometimes I lay on my back on the couch to crochet… When I do this, it puts my hands in a position so the weight of the Odyssey is working against me. So if you like to crochet laying down (is this even a thing??), it’s just a little something to consider!

What’s the big deal?

If you’re wondering what the big deal is about these hooks, I want you to think about yarn for a second. Think about a yarn you reeeeallly love. Now think about one that you can’t stand working with. It’s the same thing with these hooks.

For some crocheters, like myself, these hooks were life changing. When I started using Furls hooks, I found my entire hand was less tense and I felt less strain on my wrist. THIS is incredible. I love the way they make my hands feel. Yes, they also help me crochet faster and more evenly, but my hand/wrist health is what makes these a big deal.

Are they worth it?

YES, YES, YES. If you’ve never tried a Furls hook before, you’ll definitely want to read this first. I recommend starting with a Streamline first, because they are a lower investment and lighter weight which is easier to get used to at first.

When you’re ready, you’ve got to try out the Odyssey (especially the peach one!) I’ve never tried another hook like them. Not only are they beautiful, but they’re functional and worth every penny for the feeling they give your hands.

What if they break?

I see this concern A LOT. And I totally get it, if you’re paying a lot of money for a hook, you want to make sure it’s going to last. I have quite a few Furls hooks now… and by that I mean at least two dozen (but who’s counting?) and I’ve never had a single issue. I have an Alpha, wood Streamlines, Swirl Streamlines, and Odysseys and I use them all regularly. When I’m not using them, they stay in my collector’s box, but while in use I usually keep them right in my project bags.

Now, with all of that said… accidents do happen. Here’s the good news: Furls has the most amazing customer service. They guarantee all of their hooks so if you have ANY issue, they’re a phone call or email away and will help you out.

Still not sure?

If you’ve got questions about Furls hooks, leave a comment and I’ll be happy to answer!
