Free Crochet Pattern: Picot Dishcloth & Towel

Meet my latest free crochet pattern for the Picot Dishcloth and Towel! This project encompasses a few of my favorite things – it’s easy and mindless, works up quickly, and is super functional so I can use it all the time in my kitchen and home!

This pattern is perfect for beginners because it uses basic stitches, but will also teach you a few new crochet techniques. Since I normally keep my favorite cotton yarn in my stash, it’s also a fast and fun project if you need a last minute gift idea for a housewarming present or holiday gift.

This pattern features a fun variation of single crochet, called the extended single crochet stitch. I love the elegant texture it creates, but I felt like it needed a little pop of color… and the picot stitch border was perfect to accent this project!

If you like this pattern, you’ll love My Favorite Dishcloth pattern and Dishie Towel pattern. These free patterns are my most-used crochet projects because I constantly have them on rotation in my kitchen.

My Favorite Cotton Yarn

It’s no secret that this is my favorite cotton yarn for functional items in my home. It might look familiar, because it’s the same yarn I used for My Favorite Dishcloth pattern and the Dishie Towel pattern.

Dishie holds up beautifully over time and the colors stay bright, even after dozens of times through the laundry. There are tons of colors to choose from in the Dishie yarn family, be sure to check out the larger size Dishie cone and Dishie Multi that would be perfect for this pattern!

If you’re wondering how much yarn you really need for this pattern, I recommend getting 2 skeins of your main color and 1 skein of your accent color. You’ll be able to make 1 dish towel and 2 coordinating dishcloths with 3 total skeins!

Modern, Elegant Stitches

This pattern uses the extended single crochet stitch, which creates a simple, but beautiful texture throughout your dishcloth and towel. Like My Favorite Dishcloth pattern, this stitch will give you a sturdy texture that will dry quickly after use.

To top it off, this pattern uses a picot stitch border to give a pop of color and interesting texture to your project. The border really brings this project together and gives it a fun modern element to stand out in your kitchen!

  2. Yarn over and pull through the stitch.
  3. Yarn over and pull through first loop on hook.
  4. Yarn over and draw through two remaining loops on hook.

Picot Stitch

The picot stitch is used in the border of this pattern to add a little pop to your project. The picot stitch is not counted as a stitch when working this border. Follow these steps when working the picot stitch:

  1. Chain 3
  2. Insert hook into first chain of the ch-3
  3. Yarn over and pull through the stitch and loop on the hook (slip stitch).
