My favorite type of crochet project to make for gifts is something simple that works up quick! A lot of times I’ll go with household items like My Favorite Dishcloth or my Picot Dish Set pattern. This year, I’m mixing it up with the Wonder Headband. The Wonder Headband is super simple and fast – and it looks sooo cute! And guess what?! The paid PDF version of this pattern has additional sizes including baby, toddler, and child sizes so you can make a mommy and me set, or a set for the whole fam!
If you’ve ever wondered how to make this type of headband, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to see how easy it is. The secret of why I love this design is the amazing yarn I used! Materials
- US J/10 6mm Crochet Hook (these are my fav!)
- 1 Skein of Wonderfluff, by Knit Picks/WeCrochet, bulky 5 weight, (70% Baby Alpaca, 7% Merino Wool, 23% Nylon, 142yds/130m, 1.75oz/50g)
- Adult size uses approximately half of a skein (71 yds/65m)
- Scissors
- Tapestry Needle
- Stitch markers (optional)

Discover the magic of this yarn

Stitch Abbreviations
- Ch – Chain
- Fsc – Foundation single crochet
- Sc – Single crochet
- St(s) – Stitch(es)
Stitch Notes
Foundation Single Crochet (Fsc)
Instead of using chains, this pattern uses the foundation single crochet method to create the first row. This method allows the edge of your crochet to stretch more easily and ensures your headband will fit comfortably.
Pattern Notes
- Ch 1 at the beginning of a row does not count as a stitch.
Pattern
Row 1: Fsc 50, turn. – 50 sts
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each st to end of row, turn.
Rows 3-9: Repeat row 2.
Row 10: Ch 1, sc in next 18 sts, fsc 32 sts, turn.
Row 11: Ch 1, sc in each st to end of row, turn.
Rows 12-18: Repeat row 2.
Cut yarn and leave 10” tail for seaming.
Seaming
Step 1: Mark Stitches
Place a stitch marker on the 18th st from the split end of your headband on the first and last row.
Step 2: Cross Headband
Cross the top section of the headband over the bottom and align the stitch markers.
Step 3: Seam Long Edge
Use a tapestry needle to seam the two sections together until you reach the stitch markers.
This will seam 18 sts together, leaving 14 sts unseamed in the center crossed section of the headband.
The mattress stitch is recommended for a seamless look, but you can also use the whip stitch or your favorite seaming method.
Step 4: Seam Short Edge
Fold the headband lengthwise and seam along the short edge.
Cut yarn and weave in ends.
